MU SENIOR DESIGNER
Phoenix Utilities Ltd is one of Scotland’s leading utility organisations. We specialise in providing multi-utility solutions to various clients across the domestic, industrial and commercial sectors. We currently hold Design and Construction accreditation for GIRS, WIRS and NERS.
To continue to meet the demands of our clients and to assist in our ongoing growth in the Multi-utility Industry, Phoenix Utilities are looking for a Senior MU Designer to join our team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To design multi-utility networks for new housing, industrial, commercial or multiple occupancy projects
- Support required commercial activity including technical liaison with sales teams
- Ensure that each design has relevant technical approval and is approved for construction.
- Manage a portfolio of multi-utility design projects ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and technical policies and bulletins
- Responsible for managing all aspects of the design life-cycle from quotation acceptance to adoption, ensuring that time-bound milestones are achieved
- Responsible for ensuring accurate project documentation is recorded
- Liaison with Design Engineers to ensure appropriate technical input and compliance with standards is achieved
- Liaise as required with external agencies including gas / electricity network operators and water companies
- Verify contract against original quote, ensuring that assumptions, plant and equipment and non-contestable works are valid and within specification
- Adhere to commercial and financial policies and procedures, highlighting variations from agreed specifications
- Work efficiently and effectively to achieve personal and company targets and objectives
- Assisting with the review of current processes and identifying areas to improve
- Carry out other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested
The ideal candidate
- A minimum of 5 years experience within multi-utility projects in a range of domestic and commercial designs
- Understanding of the utilities/construction sector
- Understanding of construction methods and processes
- Ability to effectively understand and interpret complex engineering drawings and appropriate commercial documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well in a team and equally on own initiative with proactive approach to all aspects.
- Ability to adapt to or have experience of commercial/ in-house design and costing packaging including Gasworks & Windebut.
- Competent in customer service, telephone manner and administrative skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Access Databases.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to new tasks and duties.
- Organised, methodical approach to work with excellent time management skills.
C.A.D TECHNICIAN

To continue to meet the demands of our clients and to assist in our ongoing growth in the Multi-utility Industry, Phoenix Utilities are looking for a C.A.D Technician to join our team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To update as-laid records for all Gas, Water and Electric installations within the agreed SLA.
- Support design team and production of multi-utility design plans
- To prepare as-built records for Asset Adoption with DNO’s, IDNO’s, GT’s, IGT’s and Water Companies.
- Liaise with network owners and industry stakeholders to obtain POC, CSEPS & Asset Value.
- To prepare reports on quality issues or missing information.
- Measure mains and service installations to assist with percentage complete or cost to complete data.
- Liaise with GIS Mapping survey team.
- Continuous process improvement of the delivery support processes.
- Carry out other administration duties as required to support the wider business.
The ideal candidate
- At least one year’s AutoCAD experience
- Understanding of the utilities/construction sector
- Understanding of construction methods and processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well in a team and equally on own initiative with proactive approach to all aspects.
- Competent in customer service, telephone manner and administrative skills.
- IT literacy and ability to use computer packages to area of work. Numerate and accurate when working with figures.
- Ability to use Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Access Databases.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to new tasks and duties.
- Organised, methodical approach to work with excellent time management skills.
- Knowledge of GIS Mapping and Arc-Esri systems would be advantageous
- City and Guilds CAD qualification (desirable)
